We are excited that WAVES for Development is here in El Transito, Nicaragua! We have been here for three weeks and the community has been so friendly to work with. Surf great waves while interacting with the local customs, history & the environmental issues as a volunteer. No matter what your interests, we most likely have a program to match your needs! Options include the Center for the Arts, a college prep program, environmental, and more!
You will get free time during the day and on the weekend to enjoy the fabulous beaches and nightlife of this place, take surfing lessons, and see the surrounding attractions in our weekend day trips.
With near constant offshore winds from the lake and few crowds, Nicaragua really is a surfer’s paradise. The southern hemisphere winter months of April to October send long period swells lining up from the south. With options to surf steps away, or a short drive / boat ride away to more renowned breaks, there are options for everyone.
