Today was an amazing day! It is only my third day in Lobitos, but I feel so at home with both the WAVES community as well as the Lobitos community as a whole. In many ways, they are one of the same really. After spending all morning at the school across the street helping teach English and getting to know the kids, we all went to the beach in the afternoon with about 60 people from both Lobitos and Talara, both adults and children. We collected trash and plastic bottles off of the beach and filled up more than 25 bags. Most importantly, it was an incredible way to interact with the people of Lobitos and get them invested in their own community as well. Everyone seemed to have a great time enjoying good company and doing something worthwhile. One of the little girls in our group, Alma, at the grand age of 3 or 4, was probably the most relentless helper of all despite the fact that her gloves were 3 sizes too big. The caves and beach area were beautiful so it made for a good spot to get rid of the only parts that were not so beautiful..aka ¨la basura!¨ Overall, great people, great activity, and great scenery. I could not ask for much more!
