The first ever ‘Eco Festival Forest and Beach’ event took place in Canoas de Punta Sal, Northern Peru, February 25-28th.   Luis Felipe, one of the organizers from the different associations and groups represented, visited Lobitos a couple of days before the event to share some of the same conservation concepts.  He talked about the benefits of living between the dry forest and ocean, offering alternative eco-efficiencies through endemic specie restoration.

Luis was part of the WAVES Pilot Program in Feb of 2008, and was happy to see some of the trees planted in the school complete their life cycle and produce more pods and seeds.

The idea behind the Eco festival is to make conservation fun and highlight the relationship between ecosystems and humans, particularly in Northern Peru.  Complete with juggling, drum circles, arts and crafts, sand castle competition and parade, the inaugural event was a success and fits nicely w/ conversation themes taught through the WAVES environmental education programs in Lobitos.  For pictures visit the event’s Facebook Page.
