This morning, as the ¨Peruvian Mamas¨ walked around the hostel attempting to wake up these traveling teenagers at 8:30 am, we were all greeted by the beaming, morning sun. We’ve all begun to get used to Ms.Tran´s morning song of  “Om Namah Shivaya” or “MarzBar!” as a wake up call.

As we all rushed to brush our teeth, freshen up and get dressed, the early birds always get the first worm (breakfast!) Breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs and ham, bread rolls with butter or marmalade and yogurt with fruit. After breakfast, we were all introduced to Luis Felipe (aka Pipe, with a Spanish accent). He’s considered one of the most famous and well known ecologists of all of  Northern Peru.

As we walked along dusty roads and what was perceived to be dead trees and hopeless plants (silly New Yorkers), we were surprised by how alive they were. As we examined different plants, we learned how they eveolved and adapted to what is now known as a Dry Forest.

We walked to the ‘WAVES house’ for another refill of water, a visit to the Lobitos school and then enjoyed lunch at local homes. Towards the afternoon, our GLC family split in two to either go surfing or begin our construction project. While one half of us enjoyed waves and water in the hot sun, the other half were painting boards, hammering nails and carrying construction materials to the worksite (Not easy in typical Lobitos weather).

After our afternoon duties, we regrouped, ate dinner and engaged in one of our daily group meetings. And now to bed, only to look forward to more moments to create with each other.
