Unfortunately I only have photographs from maybe the first week or so of my trip in Peru, as my camera broke within the first week of my trip (or at least what I thought was broken). As it turns out, sand had gotten into the lens of my camera, which followed with me unintentionally killing the rest of the film in my possession. Sorry about that everyone. I don’t claim to be a professional photographer or anything of the sort, but I think a few of the exposures turned out great. Below are the couple rolls of film I managed to develop. Initially I wasn’t too concerned with capturing any photographs of the waves in the surrounding region of Lobitos, simply because they were so damn consistent! When I had arrived in Lobitos, the swell was already picking up and seemed to remain throughout the duration of my trip. In fact, I extended my trip an extra five days or so to surf Chicama before I headed back home. I might have lucked out, but there always seemed to be swell to ride during the month of July into August while I was in Peru, the winds always offshore.
With time to kill, I spent the better portion of one of my days walking around Miraflores before I was scheduled to make my way up north. This picture overlooks Parque de Kennedy and the surrounding region.

Initially arriving into Lobitos at the end of a work week for the program (I think Friday afternoon), the group had been planning a night of camping at a beach nearby. This was made possible having recently invested in a moto with a pickup attached. Everyone was hauled to our beach nearby and back with the necessary food and supplies for the night. We gathered some wood and scrambled to catch some waves before sundown. There’s some pictures of our bonfire below.
I happened to be in Lobitos for the length of the Women’s Movistar Pro. Below are a couple pictures of the press conference for the event.
With time in between my involvement with the program and surfing, I made my way around the surrounding area for a few photographs of Lobitos.
Below remains some of the few pictures I acquired of me and my peer’s volunteer work around the school and community. It was an exciting time to be around Lobitos for several reasons. Having recently acquired and fenced off a piece of land right next to the local school, a lot of me and my fellow group member’s time was put into developing and fixing up everything already present (the schoolhouse, skate ramp, etc.). We stripped apart the skate ramp that was then covered in holes and dents, and laid new plywood over the top. We finished constructing the fence that would line the plot of land for the WAVES for Development program. We repainted and fixed up the buildings present upon the land (schoolhouse). We set up irrigation for plants to border the inside and outside of the property, and dug out the start of a compost pit. I also spent some time within the school teaching English with Junior. There are a few pictures of the kids and school below as well.
